This is our first look at the Australian release of relaunched and redesign of Russel Westbrook’s signature shoe collection by Jordan. The 2018 launch of this sleekly designed performance basketball shoe comes with some innovative elements offering great value for money.
For lovers of the previously released Westbrook 2.0 hi-top fashion shoes will be disappointed, as this collection offers a complete new look and design in a ‘on-court’ performance shoes like no other.
It would be fair to say that Russel’s initial foray into releasing a signature shoe line could be labelled as a ‘failure’ given the 2.0’s were predominantly found gathering dust in clearance bins of all major shoe retailers.
However, just like the perseverance of Westbrook that seen him aloft the 2016/17 NBA MVP award the Jordan team persevered with the signature collection coming-up with a new design and look befitting the player with true on-court appeal.
The OKC Thunder point guard had input in the style and spoke about the design process behind his “Why Not?” collection ahead of its release.
“I love storytelling using different ideas and fabrics in new ways,” Westbrook said. “I’m always trying to figure out how I can change the culture or push the brand in new directions.”
Mr Westbrook’s playing and personal style is no doubt unique and carried with flare. Behind the man, there is balance between a meticulous attention to detail and an attitude to sucsceed. This is a mantra he has carried both on and off court since high school, following a simple message: “If I face a challenge, I run at it — not away from it,” he says.
With this, gives birth to the concept, “Why Not?” It defines his story from childhood to MVP, how he carries himself as a man and a player, especially with his first signature performance shoe, the Jordan Why Not Zer0.1, now he has a story to share.
